GOALS

OUR TEAM

MISSION

  • ALKEBULAN SHULE will encourage self-determination through education and learning opportunities, which highlight positive achievements of People of African Descent around the world “pre” and “post” enslavement, particularly African Americans who have made many significant contributions to western civilization and the world as a whole.

  • ALKEB

  • ALKEBULAN SHULE will encourage self-determination through education and learning opportunities, which highlight positive achievements of People of African Descent around the world “pre” and “post” enslavement, particularly African Americans who have made many significant contributions to western civilization and the world as a whole.

  • ALKEBULAN SHULE will transform our community by encouraging and fostering self-awareness, and self-respect of our students through Afrocentric education focusing on the significant contributions made in the past and present by People of African Descent and embracing the principles of the Nguzo Saba (unity, self-determination, purpose, collective work and responsibility, cooperative economics, creativity, and faith) based on African traditions.

  • ALKEBULAN SHULE will give students the freedom to accept who they are, what they can be and how important they are to the community.  This self-actualization process will be nurtured through a rites of passage program.  The completion of which will signify that adolescents are entering adulthood and are ready to become contributing members of society.

  • ALKEBULAN SHULE will encourage cultural awareness by supplementing and enhancing the school systems’ educational curriculum through on-line and in-person instruction.

  • ALKEBULAN SHULE will create a shift in mindset to strengthen our interpersonal communications and foster collaboration. The aim is to develop youth and adults into intellectual scholars, entrepreneurs and industrious producers who act toward developing thriving communities.

  • The aim of ALKEBULAN SHULE is to provide a unique global perspective by creating opportunities for both students and their families to travel to countries that represent Africa and the African Diaspora, which will encourage self-respect and self-empowerment by connecting with their ancestral home and the kings and queens from which they descend.

  • Through an Afrocentric approach to education along with direct contact with other cultures, ALKEBULAN SHULE will open the minds and hearts of its students – who will learn that human beings, no matter where they are from, are more alike than different, more reliant on one another than they realize and that the African Diaspora is very diverse in languages and traditions with deep roots that connect all of us in a powerful and meaningful way because of our common ancient ancestry.

  • The ALKEBULAN SHULE programs stress that the past has created us but we will define how the past will influence our future and the future of those around us. In fact, knowing one’s past shall open the doors of the future. Marcus Garvey said “[a] people without knowledge of their past history, origin and culture is like a tree without roots.”

Our team consists of activists, educators, elected officials, community leaders, and many more.    ALKEBULAN SHULE (translated Mother of Mankind School) was created to provide educational resources and opportunities for youth, families, and adults to create a meaningful and relative connection to their ancestral past through innovative programming and partnerships. ALKEBULAN SHULE also aims to develop analytical thinkers who appreciate the need to record present day information and research our rich past. Alkebulan Shule puts students in touch with their roots by creating curricula, partnering with Afrocentric schools, organizations and creating travel opportunities so that students can learn first-hand about where humanity began.
